Learn how to safely use shared tools, power equipment, and materials at the HOC workshop — a creative maker space supported by Alkemist.
Read the rules below, log tool use in the #workshop-borrow channel, and sign off here before you start building.
🔌 Power Tools
Power tools must be logged in the Slack channel #workshop-borrow.
Tools that require logging are marked with a colored sticker.
You can log a tool by posting a message or photo with this format: 🛠️ Tool: [name] | 👤 Borrowed by: [your name] | 🕐 Out: [date/time] | ⏰ Back: [planned return]
Keep borrowing time reasonable. If you need more time, just update your message.
🪚 Manual Tools
Tools like screwdrivers, hammers, saws, calipers, etc. do not need to be logged.
Just return them in good condition and within a fair timeframe.
Always clean tools before putting them back — a quick wipe or dust-off is enough.
Return tools to their proper place.
Leave the workspace tidy so the next person can jump right in.
Treat shared equipment with care — it helps everyone!
No Spray Painting Indoors
For health and cleanliness reasons, spray paint is not allowed inside the workshop.
If you're working on a project that requires it, please take it outside and protect nearby surfaces.
The laser cutter and most power tools may only be used if you have relevant experience or have received a short intro from someone at Alkemist.
You are personally responsible for your own safety while using the workshop.
If you’re unsure how to use a tool safely — ask first. We're happy to help.
If you damage or break something — even by accident — you’re expected to either replace it or talk to us to find a fair solution.
Mistakes happen! We just ask for honesty and respect.
Logging tool use helps us understand when and how damage happens — it’s not about blame, it’s about care.
There are shared screws, nails, and fasteners available for everyone.
Please use common sense:
Took a few? No problem.
Took a whole box? Please replace them so others can keep building too.
